There are fears coming from both sides in these arguments, from those who support Trump, and from those who do not. Half of the commenters are scared that America would turn into a racist place if Trump was elected President, due to his stance on illegal immigrants. Those commenters provide explanations as to why, such as they are from Southern America, or their parents immigrated here. A few commenters support Mr. Trump, and are scared the country is being overran with illegal immigrants, who take jobs that American citizens could have. Jake, a former law enforcement officer, says he sees firsthand the kind of people who immigrate illegally, and it is not pretty.
Beliefs & Values:
There are two sets of beliefs in these comments. On one hand, are the commenters who agree with Trump and believe that immigration laws should be much tighter in order to boost the economy and provide more jobs to Americans. They believe that the illegal immigrants are a threat to this country. On the other hand, are those who disagree with Trump. They believe that America is called "the land of the free, home of the brave" for a reason, and it provides much opportunities for those from South America and Mexico. They believe it is a matter of life and death if they do not leave their country for the U.S.
Reasonable Commenters:
The first comment by "Anonymous" is a very reasonable one. I agree on his stance that America should rebuild the textile industry and bring jobs back to America. His comment about Walmart is spot on, as it has been known to shut down businesses in the U.S. because they cannot compete with Walmart's low prices.
"Jake" also has a legitimate point as he describes his job as a federal law enforcement agent. He has seen first hand the effects illegal immigration has, and I believe that makes his points reasonable and truthful.
Another post by "Anonymous" states that they do not enjoy the Mexican cultural love for dog fighting. That is extremely reasonable, as I believe dog fighting is a terrible thing and a cruelty to the animals. It is inexcusable to treat a dog that way, in my honest opinion.
"Al'n" makes a reasonable point in saying his mother immigrated here illegally to save her and her family's lives. He goes on to explain how his mother learned English, went to school, and also worked in the U.S. to provide for her family. That is a legitimate reason for coming to the U.S.
Not Trustworthy Comments:
"Gina Genochio" comes off as very rude and condescending in her post about Trump "hustling people in his casinos." She is blasting Trump and making statements that have zero factual basis to them. This post does not have any credibility in my opinion.
A comment by "Anonymous" points out that the comments resemble Hitler's rein in Germany. That is a ridiculous statement to make as Hitler was responsible for the murders of millions of people. Trump only exercised his rights of free speech and his opinion, he did not murder anyone.

Is this Blog Post #3? I wasn't sure, because it doesn't seem to answer that prompt.
ReplyDeleteHere's what the prompt asked for:
"Title your post “My Thoughts on Comments.” In the post, compose detailed answers to these questions:
Some of these comments express fears and anxieties. How would you describe the fears and anxieties being expressed in these comments? What are these commenters afraid of, specifically?
What kinds beliefs and values are represented in these comments? How would you characterize the kinds of values and beliefs being expressed in the comments?
Which commenters came across as the most reasonable? What made them seem reasonable?
Which commenters came across as lacking credibility or trustworthiness? Why didn’t they seem trustworthy?"
Or was this the "Add comments and revise Blog Post 3" at the end of Module 2? It may take a bit of this and that to figure out where you're at and get you caught up.... Where are all the blog posts from Module 1?
